EXPERIENCE . COMMUNITY . SERVICE . LEADERSHIP

Join us in supporting Anne Kruse and her dedication to McGregor's growth and safety. Together, we can enrich our thriving community in ways that reflect our shared values and aspirations.

Experience
With 29+ years working with cities as Mayor I will bring expertise in economic development, finance, property maintenance, and council leadership. I’ve taught at municipal conferences and, as Assistant County Attorney, worked closely with law enforcement to support law and order.
Service
I’ve served as board member, officer, and president for organizations including the McGregor Marquette Center for the Arts, The Left Bank Shop & Gallery, Chamber of Commerce, Festival of Trees, Spirits of Christmas, Fall Art Festival, Pocket City Progress Committee, Triangle Park Committee and SASCC (Substance Abuse Services of Clayton County.
Community
A proud resident since 2004, I’ve invested in our town through my home restoration, earning the Mayor’s Century Award. Currently, building a new home in McGregor. I chose this community for its people, river, and small-town charm—and I’m here for the long term.
Leadership
As a presiding officer for many organizations in our community, I run meetings with efficiency and purpose. Trained as a mediator, I foster community and guide groups toward meaningful progress to bring consensus in a group setting.

MY COMMITMENT TO YOU

Communication & Comprehension
One of my greatest strengths as an attorney has been the ability to clearly communicate with clients and help them understand complex issues. As a city, we must also prioritize transparency and accountability to our citizens. That means ensuring information is shared openly and in language that is clear and accessible to everyone.
Honesty
Delivering difficult news is never easy, but honesty is essential. Citizens deserve the full story at all times so they can trust their local government and feel confident in the decisions being made.
Consistency
Laws and policies must be applied fairly and uniformly. Consistency builds trust and ensures that every citizen is treated equally under the law.
Team Building
Strong communities depend on strong teams. We need to strengthen communication between city departments, encourage cross-training, and ensure our City Offices remain accessible. Just like a local business, City Offices must maintain consistent daily hours of service so that the needs of our citizens are reliably met.

Meet Anne Kruse
I was born and raised in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and graduated from Beaver Dam Senior High School (Go Beavers!). During my school years, I was actively involved in dance, show choir, musical theater, and other activities that gave me a strong foundation in teamwork, creativity, and public performance.

I began my college studies at Northwestern University, majoring in theater. Due to family commitments, I left Northwestern to focus on family responsibilities. During that time, I also worked at Mercury Marine as assistant to the Vice President. Later, I moved to Platteville, Wisconsin, where I transitioned into radio advertising, focusing on writing and production.

After starting a family, I returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. I then went on to obtain my Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1992.

Since then, I have built a broad legal career. I worked in private practice in both Marion and McGregor, Iowa, and served as municipal attorney for up to ten cities. In addition, I spent six years as an Assistant County Attorney for Clayton County.
Today, I continue my legal career from my home office, serving as a Public Defender with the State of Iowa.

I am married to Jerry Kruse, and together we enjoy a blended family that includes my daughter Vanessa, bonus children Jessy (Travis) and Gabe (Amy), and six wonderful grandchildren.
